Alabama Supreme Court: ‘Unborn Children Are Persons With Rights’

(CNSNews.com) – The Alabama Supreme Court ruled in a case on Friday that “unborn children are persons with rights that should be protected by law.”

The case involved two women who had been charged  under a “chemical endangerment” law because they had ingested illegal drugs – one, cocaine, and the second, methamphetamine  -- while pregnant.

One woman’s baby tested positive for cocaine when born; the other baby was born prematurely and died shortly thereafter due to “acute methamphetamine intoxication.”
They women appealed their convictions, with their lawyers making numerous arguments but one in particular: that the word “child” did not apply to an unborn child or a fetus.  The Court said otherwise.

In its concluding remarks, the Alabama Supreme Court said:  “The decision of this Court today is in keeping with the widespread legal recognition that unborn children are persons with rights that should be protected by law. Today, the only major area in which unborn children are denied legal protection is abortion, and that denial is only because of the dictates of Roe.”

“Furthermore, the decision in the present cases is consistent with the Declaration of Rights in the Alabama Constitution, which states that ‘all men are equally free and independent; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” said the Court.

After the ruling on Jan. 11, Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange said, “The court has ratified our argument that the public policy of our state is to protect life, both born and unborn."
"It is a tremendous victory that the Alabama Supreme Court has affirmed the value of all life, including those of unborn children whose lives are among the most vulnerable of all," he said.

Planned Parenthood Director Becomes Anti-Abortion Activist

Abby Johnson, former director of a Planned Parenthood in Bryan, Texas has left the organization because she claims it was pressuring her to increase revenue through more abortions. Now she prays outside her former workplace with an anti-abortion group.

Johnson says she changed her mind about abortion after watching an ultrasound of the procedure. "I just thought I can't do this anymore, and it was just like a flash that hit me and I thought that's it," she told KBTX's Ashlea Sigman. However, she also says she was disturbed by a change in Planned Parenthood's business model. She claims she was pressed to get more "abortions in the door" because "the money wasn't in family planning, the money wasn't in prevention, the money was in abortion." She's now a supporter of the anti-abortion group Coalition for Life, and Planned Parenthood has filed a restraining order against both Johnson and the Coalition. The order doesn't forbid Johnson from praying or protesting on the premises, but it does say that "Planned Parenthood would be irreparably harmed by the disclosure of certain information."

THE GENOCIDE CONTINUES! Planned Parenthood murdered one baby every 94 seconds in 2011

And the American genocide continues, with 333,964 murders in 2011. That’s the figure proudly released by Planned Parenthood Federation of America in their report delineating how many abortions they performed in fiscal 2011. Doing some simple math reveals that the number of abortions performed equates to one abortion every 94 seconds.

And Planned Parenthood can be pleased with their progress: the number of abortions they performed in 2011 was up from 2010, when they snuffed out 329,445 lives. And the U.S. government can carry the banner high with the abortion provider; Planned Parenthood received $542.4 million in “government health services grants and reimbursements,” including “payments from Medicaid managed care plans.”

Planned Parenthood isn’t hurting. Its assets total $1.2 billion.

JUST IN TIME: DOMINO’S PIZZA FOUNDER WINS OBAMACARE CONTRACEPTION RULING

Dominos-G-620x379DETROIT (AP) — A federal judge has ruled a property management company owned by the founder of Domino’s Pizza doesn’t have to immediately implement mandatory contraception coverage in the health care law.
U.S. District Judge Lawrence Zatkoff ruled Sunday in favor of Tom Monaghan and his Domino’s Farms Corp., near Ann Arbor. Monaghan, a devout Roman Catholic, says contraception isn’t health care but a “gravely immoral” practice.
Zatkoff granted Monaghan’s emergency motion for a temporary restraining order until a final decision is made in the case. The mandate would have taken effect Tuesday.
The government says the contraception mandate benefits women’s health and removes financial barriers. There are about a dozen similar lawsuits pending nationwide.
Monaghan sold most of his controlling stake in Domino’s Pizza in 1998 to private equity company Bain Capital.

Judge says 'Choose Life' plates invalid unless "Choose Death' plates issued

Judge finds NC 'Choose Life' plates unconstitutionalRALEIGH, N.C. – A federal judge has ruled it is unconstitutional for North Carolina to issue pro-life license plates unless the state offers similar plates supporting abortion rights.
U.S. District Court Judge James C. Fox ruled on Friday that North Carolina cannot produce or distribute the “Choose Life” plate.
Judge Fox concluded, “The State’s offering of a Choose Life license plate in the absence of a pro-choice plate constitutes viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment.”

Group Plans Christmas Party To Promote Abortion

Western Center for Journalism - As Christians around the world take time to remember the miraculous birth of Jesus, a Washington, D.C., group will be raising money at its Christmas party to help make any birth a miracle.
The D.C. Abortion Fund doesn’t hide its cause. If not apparent enough from its name, the group’s website explains it “makes grants to women … who cannot afford the full cost of an abortion,” noting its volunteer staff members “hope to make ‘choice’ a reality because [they] believe that a woman’s right to healthcare should not depend on her wallet.”
Representing the only D.C.-based organization dedicated solely to paying for abortions, the D.C. Abortion Fund is calling its “Peace, Joy and Choice Winter Holiday Party” the “hottest party of the holiday season.”
Not only does the cost of admission add cash to its war chest, the group states “5% of all drink orders go to support our work (in case you needed another reason to toss a few back) … so bottoms up for choice!”
To be fair, this is certainly not the first time an abortion group has hijacked a holiday for its own gain. The D.C. Abortion Fund is obviously just following in the footsteps of Planned Parenthood – a heavyweight among the baby murder crowd.
The group infamously offered Black Friday discounts and, most insensitively, those who make money by preventing motherhood organized fundraisers specifically for Mother’s Day!
Still, a one-issue group like the D.C. Abortion Fund piggybacking on the spirit of giving associated with Christmas is particularly offensive.
Even a secular view of Christ’s birth must concede the impact one life can have. We will never know the contribution millions of Americans might have made were their lives not prematurely snuffed out by these defenders of “choice.”

VICTORY UNDERSCORES VALUE OF LIFE IN THE WOMB OF HANDICAPPED WOMAN

Good news for citizens of Nevada, this Christmas season: compassion is still lawful in your state, and life is still protected, thanks to a decision that has broad implications for you and your religious liberty, for the sanctity of life, and for families nationwide.
Some two decades ago, William and Amy Bauer of Fernley adopted six children from Costa Rica. All of the children were siblings, and all suffered from fetal alcohol syndrome. As a result of that affliction, the second-oldest, Elisa, now 32, is mentally challenged, and has other physical challenges. Because of these issues, she lives in a group home as a ward of the state, although the Bauers remain her legal, loving guardians.
It’s been a rough few months for the Bauers. William is the rector of St. Columba’s Church, which recently burned down in an arson-caused fire. About the same time, the Bauers learned that Elisa had become pregnant.
She decided with her parents to give birth to the baby, and arranged for a private adoption. Six qualified couples expressed a strong interest in the child. But that beautiful opportunity to turn something sad into something good was quickly challenged by one of Elisa’s physicians, who decided that – because Elisa is mentally handicapped – the baby should be aborted. When Elisa and her parents refused to agree to that, he alerted local social services, who took them to court.

Abortion 'triples breast cancer risk': Fourth study finds terminations linked to disease

The study showed having an abortion could triple the risk of breast cancer, however it was a small sample of 300 womenAn abortion can triple a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer in later life, researchers say.
A team of scientists made the claim while carrying out research into how breastfeeding can protect women from developing the killer disease.

While concluding that breastfeeding offered significant protection from cancer, they also noted that the highest reported risk factor in developing the disease was abortion.

Other factors included the onset of the menopause and smoking.

The findings, published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, are the latest research to show a link between abortion and breast cancer.

The research was carried out by scientists at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka.

It is the fourth epidemiological study to report such a link in the past 14 months, with research in China, Turkey and the U.S. showing similar conclusions.

STUNNER!!! Dublin Declaration: Abortion has no place in treating unborn children and their mothers

Dublin – A major medical symposium in Ireland this week concluded that abortion is not medically necessary to save the life of a pregnant mother.
About 140 Irish medical professionals participated in the International Symposium on Excellence in Maternal Healthcare. The symposium featured a panel of world-renowned experts in the fields of mental health, obstetrics and gynecology, and molecular epidemiology who presented their cutting-edge research and data gathered over years of clinical experience.
The symposium expert committee released its conclusions in the Dublin Declaration on Maternal Healthcare, which states:
  • “As experienced practitioners and researchers in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, we affirm that direct abortion is not medically necessary to save the life of a woman.
  • We uphold that there is a fundamental difference between abortion, and necessary medical treatments that are carried out to save the life of the mother, even if such treatment results in the loss of life of her unborn child.
  • We confirm that the prohibition of abortion does not affect, in any way, the availability of optimal care to pregnant women.”
The symposium particularly addressed issues of maternal mortality and morbidity, care for women with high-risk pregnancies, mental health, cancer in pregnancy, and fetal anomaly. Expert presentations addressed new therapies which involve the safe delivery of chemotherapy during pregnancy and the emerging field of in-utero fetal surgery.
Because abortion is currently the subject of public debate in Ireland, abortion proponents have been quick to confuse legitimate medical treatment with abortion. Professor Eamon O’Dwyer, chairman of the Committee for Excellence in Maternal Healthcare, believes that the Dublin Symposium clears up misinformation and provides “clarity and confirmation” to doctors and legislators.
“Irish Obstetricians and Gynaecologists have previously pointed out that treatment for conditions such as ectopic pregnancy are not considered abortion by doctors, yet misinformation in regard to this abounds in public debate. The Symposium clarifies that direct abortion is never medically necessary to save the life of a woman, and that’s good news for mothers and their babies,” said Professor O’Dwyer.
International experts at the symposium applauded Ireland’s impressive track record on maternal health care. According to UNICEF, the nation consistently boasts one of the lowest maternal mortality rates in the world (#1 in 2005, #3 in 2008).
Dr. Seán Ó Domhnaill, medical adviser to the Life Institute, hailed the global import of the symposium’s findings: “This is a globally significant outcome, which shows abortion has no place in treating women and their unborn children.”

911 ADMONISHES PLANNED PARENTHOOD

120724abortiongriefzA Planned Parenthood abortion business where a woman died after apparently being left, bleeding, for five hours or more had been told on a separate issue to call 911 for help in an emergency the same day Tonya Reaves died, according to a new report.

The result is a renewed call for an criminal investigation of Reaves’ death, according to officials with Operation Rescue.

The organization’s officials said they obtained a copy of a telephone call placed at 12:43 p.m. on July 20 from the Loop Health Center Planned Parenthood in Chicago regarding a fracas that developed with a mother and daughter who were at the abortion business.

That situation was unrelated to that of Reaves, who had her fatal abortion at about 11 a.m. at that location on that day, Operation Rescue said.

But the 911 dispatcher in the call is heard admonishing the Planned Parenthood worker for calling 311, a number used primarily to provide information regarding city events and programs, during an emergency.

The mother-and-daughter issue developed when a 16-year-old patient was “physically assaulted” by her mother, and Operation Rescue said the caller indicated abortion business staff members pulled the two apart after they saw the mother kick and hair-pull her daughter.

Part of the conversation, which can be heard at the Operation Rescue website, is as followed:

Spain angers feminists with plan to tighten abortion law

Women hold signs as they take part in a protest against a reform of Spain's abortion law at Tirso de Molina Square in Madrid. (AFP Photo/Dani Pozo)
Spain's conservative government has provoked a storm among women's groups with plans to tighten abortion laws to make the procedure illegal in cases where the foetus is deformed.
About 100 people took part in a rally in Madrid's central Tirso de Molina square on Sunday to protest against the proposed reform which they argue will take Spain back to the era of the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco.
The crowd, mostly women, chanted "We give birth, we decide" and "Not one step backwards".
Women with slogans written on their bodies reading "Yes to life, but I choose" and "Priests and judges out of my body" take part in a protest against a reform of the country's abortion law recently proposed by the Spanish conservative government, at Tirso de Molina Square in Madrid. (AFP Photo/Dani Pozo)"It seems to us to be a throwback to the Franco dictatorship and we are not willing to accept under any circumstances measures that will take away our rights," said Justa Montero, member of the Feminist Assembly, one of the women's groups that organised the protest.
The government announced Friday it would alter an abortion law introduced by its Socialist predecessors in 2010 which gave women the legal right to abortion on demand for up to 14 weeks of pregnancy.

This Week in Pro-life News

Chiara Corbella of Italy decided to forego cancer treatment to save her third child, and (obviously) refused an abortion. She and her husband had already lost two children to birth defects. This child, born May 30, 2011, is perfectly healthy. His mother passed on June 13, 2012.
Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan gave up on lawsuits meant to keep the clinic from opening in Auburn Hills and are putting the multi-million-dollar building up for sale- at a loss.
The Christian alternative to the Girl Scouts, The American Heritage Girls, is up and running, to counter the feminist leanings of the Scouts, which has ties to Planned Parenthood and encourages unhealthy sexual behavior and normalizes abortion.

Breaking! Obama DOES Support Chinese-style Forced Abortions!

By Heather Mathews for PPSIMMONS

The last time I wrote it was regarding women being dragged, beaten, and forced to have abortions by Chinese “Family Planning Officials”.  I mentioned Obama’s soft spot for Planned Parenthood and communism.  I asked how long it would be before he brought it here.  Now, we are one step closer to seeing Chinese-style “family planning” right here in the good ol’ USA.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) supports China’s one-child policy and has since day one.  It provides millions of dollars to the bureaucrats who implemented and enforce that policy through coercion, threats, extortion, kidnapping, and murder.  Sounds more like the Mafia to me.  Or Chicago politics.  The Obama Administration (led by one of those Chicago gangsters) is happily funding the UNFPA to the tune of FIFTY. MILLION. DOLLARS.

The UNFPA denied that forced abortions were taking place, and then claimed it was taking care of the problem with its “soothing presence.”  When it became public knowledge in 1994, they claimed to abandon the one-child policy.  In 1998, it was back and the UNFPA said that they would not be using coercive tactics.  In 2002, the UNFPA was discovered by the U.S. State Department and the Population Research Institute to be providing backup support for the one-child-policy and sharing offices with officials who were carrying it out.  U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell stated, “UNFPA’s support of, and involvement in, China’s population-planning activities allows the Chinese government to implement more effectively its program of coercive abortion.”  UNFPA’s own website confirms that the organization is carrying out joint “family planning” programs with Chinese officials.

In Changsha City, the still-pregnant woman referenced in my previous post is still under guard at a hospital by between ten and twenty officials who are attempting to persuade her to abort her baby.  This follows earlier reports that another woman was forcibly aborted at seven months.  Even the Chinese public is outraged and demanding justice.

There are a number of people on internet forums discussing whether we should be sending money to these thugs to pay off this woman’s “fines” for her “illegal baby,” or staying out of foreign policy as it is “none of our business.”  I don’t think paying these brutes will prevent them from just raising the fine even higher so they can continue to bully her until she finally gives in just to make it stop.  This is only one woman among countless others who may be in the same predicament.  It is a noble idea, but ineffective in the long run, as officials may decide to raise everyone’s fines and publicize cases (true or not) to earn a quick buck.

I also take issue with the concept of staying out of foreign policy as it is the whole point of the UN (not that I agree with their very existence.)  Nearly every government makes a point of getting involved, with the White House taking the lead.  There are numerous partisan “think-tanks” making foreign policy their sole mission.  The problem lies in the election and appointment of decision-makers and policy-shapers who either don’t know or don’t care about issues around the world that may eventually impact us negatively, and other leaders who are championing such heavy-handed tactics to force an evil worldview and corrupt practices on a blind, deaf, and dumb constituency.
Think long and hard about whom you are voting for in November and what they really have to say about the issues they believe in and policies they will enact, especially those that may contribute to the poor prognosis of American Christianity. Women dragged, beaten, and forced to have abortions by Chinese “Family Planning Officials”

Is THIS what we have to look forward to?!?

By Heather Mathews for PPSIMMONS                                         June 12, 2012

On June 3rd, a woman in China, seven months pregnant, was beaten and dragged into a vehicle by a group of “Family Planning Officials” while her husband was at work.  Her crime was not paying RMB 40,000 (US $6,279) in fines for being pregnant when she already has had at least one child.1

Another woman is currently in danger of a forced abortion unless she pays the officials US $25,000 on top of the US $1500 she already paid.2

With Planned Parenthood being caught red-handed aiding women (actually undercover agents for Live Action) who requested information on obtaining sex-selective abortions3, Obama declaring that pregnancy is punishment4, and the aggressive nature of pro-choice activists5,6,7,8 who are demanding the right to “healthcare” (irony considering it is designed to end life and not preserve it,) the widespread use of such tactics by one of the fastest-growing economies and the largest holder of U.S. debt (they effectively own us) is nothing short of frightening.  As we know, China is a communist state.  Obama has considerable ties to communism.9 He has made his contempt of us well known, and he has a habit of singing the praises of Planned Parenthood.10 He seems to thoroughly enjoy bypassing Congress and writing Executive Orders11 that have no redeeming qualities (much like the person writing them.)  How long before he decides to bring Chinese-style “family planning” here?

Canada Off the Deep-End, America is Next

By Heather Mathews for PPSIMMONS

In a report by Reuters dated Friday June 8, 2012, it is announced that a 63-year-old grandmother will go to court and may be treated as a criminal for protesting- peacefully- outside a Toronto abortion clinic.

Linda Gibbons, who had an abortion in 1970 before realizing it was wrong, has spent 10 out of the last 18 years in jail for protesting outside multiple Toronto clinics in defiance of what was supposed to be a temporary injunction in 1994.  The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that the current case pending against her (Linda Dale Gibbons v. Her Majesty the Queen, #33813,) stemming from an arrest outside the Scott abortion clinic in 2008, can go on.  Ms. Gibbons argues that the police are “abusing the process” for continuing to use an 18-year-old temporary restraining order.  She is currently in prison for yet another “bubble-zone” violation.

Canada has no abortion law, and Prime Minister Stephen Harper (a conservative if you can believe it) is refusing to reopen the issue.

Maria Corsillo, the manager of the Scott clinic, erroneously refers to abortion as “health care.”  It is certainly not “care” for the unborn children being mutilated and sucked out of what is supposed to be the safest place on Earth and the only home they have ever known.  These babies are already practicing breathing within the amniotic fluid cushioning them.  Physicians already perform life-saving surgeries on babies in the womb to correct neural-tube defects, obstructions, hernias, and several other conditions.  These surgeries are performed at fetal gestations during which many women consider and obtain abortions.  So, who is defining whether or not these babies are living yet?

Psalm 139 (NIV)
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

Isaiah 49 (NIV)
1Listen to me, you islands;
    hear this, you distant nations:
Before I was born the LORD called me;
from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name...
5 And now the LORD says—
he who formed me in the womb to be his servant…
